“Giant Yearbook” Ready for Trent Geography Reunion on October 3 and 4

Trent University Professor Emeritus and former Peterborough M.P. Peter Adams announced today that a new book entitled Forty Years of Geography at Trent has been published.

Described as a "giant yearbook", the book was compiled in anticipation of the Trent Geography Reunion to be held October 3 and 4, during Trent’s annual Head of Trent and Homecoming weekend. It features a double page spread and colour plates for each of the forty years since the Department of Geography was founded in 1968. The book's authors are Peter Adams, Al Brunger, Miles Ecclestone, Steve Gardiner, Marilyn Miller and Helen Thompson.

Prof. Adams said that the book was written "both as a history of the department and as entertainment for former students and friends of Trent Geography." The book will be available to guests attending the Trent Geography Reunion reception being hosted by Prof. Adams, together with his wife Jill, on Friday, October 3 at their home on 779 Aylmer St.

Honouring past accomplishments in this way is very important to Professor Peter Lafleur, chair of the Geography Department at Trent University. "The Geography Department is proud of its 40 years of history at Trent and of its many graduates. We have evolved from a small Department with two professors in 1968 to our current complement of ten faculty and three support staff and are committed to our roots of a broadly based undergraduate degree program with a strength in field activities, and active involvement in Trent's interdisciplinary graduate programs,” said Prof. Lafleur. “The upcoming 40th year reunion represents a wonderful opportunity for past and present students, staff, faculty and friends of the Geography Department to reminisce about our history, to see current developments in our teaching, research and community involvement, to renew old friendships and to make new ones."

Forty Years of Geography at Trent was printed by Commercial Press and costs $10, plus postage and handling for mailed copies. Advance copies are available at the Trent Bookstore by calling 748-1011, ext. 1111, Department of Geography, 748-1011, ext. 7626, and Alumni House 748-1573. To order online, please email alumni@trentu.ca.
