Gloria Carrión
Class of 2003
I graduated in May 2003 with a double-major in Biology and International Development Studies. Soon after, I decided to move back to Nicaragua, where I was born. Since then, I have been working at the International Foundation for Global Economic Challenge (FIDEG - Fundación Internacional para el Desafío Económico Global). I work for the monthly journal called El Observador Económico, which FIDEG produces, doing research and writing articles on issues such as gender and development, environment and development, and national development plans, among others. At FIDEG, I have had to work very closely with people in government, non-governmental organizations, and communities who are actively involved in these issues.
I also worked for Nitlapán, a Research Institute at the Jesuit University in Managua. I was in charge of preparing the theoretical framework for a Central American Research Project on Youth Culture, which is expected to start in 2005.
In October 2004, I plan to continue my postgraduate training. I obtained a full scholarship to attend the London School of Economics where I will be doing a M.Sc. in Environment and Development. In the future, I would like to dedicate myself to research, teaching, and writing in the field of international political economy from an environmental and gender perspective.
