Professor Morrison is a graduate of University of Saskatchewan and University of Sussex (UK), where he received his D.Phil. in Comparative Politics. He has taught at Trent in both the Department of Political Studies and the Department of International Development Studies (formerly Comparative Development Studies). He has also been a Senior Lecturer and Department Head at the University of Zambia and a Research Fellow at the North-South Institute (Ottawa) and the Institute of Commonwealth Studies (London, UK).

His teaching interests lie primarily in the fields of developing country political economy, development theory and discourse and Canada's role in North-South relations. He was the founding Chair of Comparative Development Studies and he has also played a major role in developing Trent's extensive study-abroad opportunities and the Trent International Program.

Professor Morrison's scholarly interests focus on comparative politics and development studies with particular reference to Canada's North-South relations, East and Southeast Asia and Latin America. He is also interested in theoretical approaches to studying comparative international development and international political economy. For the past 20 years, his major research has been focused on Canada's development assistance policies and programs.

His latest book is titled Aid and Ebb Tide: A History of CIDA and Canadian Development Assistance (1998). He is also author of Education and Politics in Africa: The Tanzanian Case (1976) and The Politics of the Yukon Territory, 1898-1909 (1968) as well as many articles and book chapters.

Professor Morrison ihas been the Director of the Trent International Program, Provost and Dean of Arts and Science, Interim Vice-President (Academic), and Acting President of Trent University, as well as Chair of the Comparative Development Studies Program, President of the Trent University Faculty Association, Coordinator of Trent's International Studies options, and Director of Trent's CIDA-funded program in Mexico and Ecuador. He has also been President of the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development and a member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Development Studies. He is currently a member of the Advisory Boards of The Journal of Development Policy and Practice and Undercurrent: Canadian Undergraduate Journal of Development Studies. He is a member of the Board of Horizons of Friendship, a development NGO based in Cobourg, ON, and serves on the Board of the London-Goodenough Association of Canada as Co-Chair of the Scholarships Committee.
