The Patterson-Ainsley Collection
Distinguished art collection at Trent University enriches spaces, sparks inspiration, and showcases the rich artistic heritage of Canada
Established through the generosity of David ’66 and Anne Patterson in 2019, the Patterson-Ainsley Collection features 47 works, purposefully installed across both campuses. The landmark Collection is the first permanent art collection of its kind and size to be donated to Trent and includes 40 glass sculptures by many of the pioneers of the studio-glass movement.
Curated by Sandra Ainsley and her son and business partner, Daniel Ainsley, of the Sandra Ainsley Gallery in Toronto, the Collection includes blown-glass pieces, mixed-media creations, contemporary paintings, and photographic art.
The works are largely available for public viewing in campus spaces including the Bata Library, the Athletics Centre, Trent Durham GTA’s Building B, the Colleges, Blackburn Hall, and Alumni House.
The Patterson-Ainsley Collection inspires students, faculty, staff, and visitors, enriching the University’s cultural landscape for generations to come.
