2023 Summer Orientation Programming

Summer Orientation is open to all new Trent students and provides opportunities for students and their parents/supporters to learn more about the campus, services, and resources available during their time at Trent. Summer Orientation will run 3 times throughout the Summer: July 15th, July 21st, and August 11th. 

If you could not attend any Summer Orientations or would like to review a previous 2021 session, you can view a recording from the Friday, August 6th Summer Orientation.

Summer Orientation programming includes complimentary sessions, such as the Parent and Supporters Information Sessions, our Service and Resource Fair, the Nursing New Student Orientation, the Summer Connect Program, and Bring it On!   


2023 Summer Orientation

In the Summer Orientation sessions, student leaders facilitate many activities and discuss numerous topics about life at Trent: 

  • Registering for courses
  • Time management
  • Making academic decisions
  • What to expect when you arrive in September
  • Student life, clubs & groups, athletics, and much more!

There are several dates available throughout the summer, and students are encouraged to choose just one date that best fits into their schedule. To register for any of these in-person events click on the registration link below the date you wish to attend.

 

Items to Bring to Summer Orientation:

1. Reusable Water Bottle - We have water filling stations all over campus!

2. Walking shoes - Drop-in residence and campus tours will be available.

3. Laptop - Important if you would like to attend any academic sessions.

4. Appropriate weather gear - Necessary Rain Gear for outdoor sessions including Drop-in residence and campus tours.

In-person Summer Orientation Schedule 2023

The July 21st Summer Orientation Session will take place in Otonabee College.

Time Session

8:30 am - 9:15 am

Registration and Check In 

Location: Gzowski Breezeway

9:00 am - 9:30 am 

Opening Remarks 

A brief overview of the day will be given as well as a welcome by one of our College Principals.

Location: Wenjack Theatre

9:30 am - 10:00 am

Student Life Panel

This presentation will provide an overview of campus life and available resources to you as a Trent student to assist in physical and mental wellness.

Location: Wenjack Theatre

10:00 am -12:00 pm 

Resource Presentations

Various presentations on Academic Skills, Academic Advising, and Off-Campus/Student Housing will be provided to equip students with valuable resources.

Location: Wenjack Theatre

12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Lunch & Service Fair

The Service Fair will provide students with opportunities to connect with groups and supports at Trent including Student Housing, Summer Connect, College Offices and many more. The Gzwoski Dining Hall will be open for lunch.

Financial Aid Session

Financial Aid will discuss general FAQ's in regards to financing your education. This will include scholarship opportunities, bursaries as well as OSAP application information.

12:30 pm - 12:50 pm

Parent and Supporter Session 

A presentation that discusses the best ways to support your students during their transition to University. 

Location: OCA 203

12:00 pm -  2:00 pm

Academic Help Session

These sessions offer students the opportunity to connect with an Academic Advisor and College Representatives. Register for a session with staff at the Registration Table. Limited spots are available. 

Feel free to bring a laptop if you feel it necessary.

Please note: Despite that aid from staff will be given, there is so no guarantee that all issues will be resolved within this timeframe.

Drop-in Campus Tours 

Join our staff for a campus tour where we will point out key spaces on campus and also view residence rooms.

*Please bring the appropriate weather gear for the day.

Service and Resource Fair

Registration

The Service and Resource Fair ran Wednesday, August 4th 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. If you would like to learn more about the various resources available at Trent University, please contact us at orientation@trentu.ca or 705-748-1011 x 7888!


Nursing New Student Orientation

The 2023 Nursing New Student Orientation will be Saturday, June 24th, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Sign-up details will be available soon!

The Nursing New Student Orientation website will cover information you may have questions about starting your Nursing degree at Trent. During Nursing Summer Orientation, these questions were addressed by faculty, staff, and current BScN students who are enthusiastic about welcoming you to your community at the Trent/ Fleming School of Nursing.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Orientation

SAS101 is a full-day event offered by SAS, open to new students looking to use Student Accessibility Services and their supporters. This information day focuses on the things that require your attention as an incoming first-year student.

There are three SAS101 sessions scheduled this summer from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.:

  • Friday, July 7, 2023
  • Friday, July 14, 2023
  • Thursday, July 20, 2023

During the event, you'll have the opportunity to hear from various Accessibility Advisors and view presentations from different services at Trent, such as Academic Advising, Academic Skills, and Counselling!

We will be meeting at 10:00 A.M. in the Gzowski College Atrium on East Bank. Enter the south Gzowski College building and take the elevator or stairs to the lower floor.

Attend any of the three dates to learn more about how to ensure a smooth transition to university!
