Anne Pasek is the Canada Research Chair in Media, Culture and the Environment and an Assistant Professor cross-appointed between the Department of Cultural Studies and the School of the Environment. She studies the cultural politics of climate change, with a focus on energy, gender, labour, and the political economy of the tech sector.
She has written about data centre contestation, the negative impacts of so-called AI systems, how ICT companies have shaped environmental norms and policies, media infrastructures, debates on how to quantify and communicate about carbon emissions, the role of affect in climate denial and carbon removal, the aesthetics of solar-power, and how to think self-reflexively about the climate impacts of research methods.
She teaches classes on a wide range of subjects, including social theory, environmental communication, climate change and culture wars, critical approaches to fashion, noise music and media ecologies. She directs the Experimental Methods & Media Lab. She welcomes opportunities for mentorship and collaboration with students across her areas of expertise and interest. Prospective graduate students can learn more about how to pitch a potential project for supervision at https://www.annepasek.com/prospective-students.
