Katie Neve's Story - 2025

Where I studied previously
I completed a 2-year Outdoor and Adventure Education program at Fleming’s Frost Campus before moving to Peterborough for work.

Why I chose Trent
I met so many people from Trent, who introduced me to the campus, and I fell in love with the Trent community and the nature surrounding it. My family and new friends supported and inspired me to return to school.

Roles I've had while at Trent
This past summer I worked as an Orientation Facilitator, planning and running O-Week. This academic year I worked as a Student Ambassador in the Lady Eaton College Office. This summer, I will be returning to the Orientation team.

My thoughts on the unique needs of transfer students
The needs of transfer students differ from those starting out of high school because every student comes in with a different journey to Trent. Their previous institutions had their own procedures and services which likely differ from Trent’s, making it disorienting to relearn something in a slightly different way. Some students (like me) take a break between their studies and really benefit from resources, like academic skills, that help them relearn how to be a student. Finally, most transfer students come in with their own collection of transfer credits, which can make the course selection process daunting.

What makes Trent special
Trent is special for a couple reasons! As I mentioned before, it is surrounded by nature which makes it feel like its own little community outside of Peterborough. It is also special because of the people. It’s easy to connect with people and groups that share your interests because everyone knows everyone. From improv, to beekeeping, to intramural innertube water polo, there is a club or group on campus for you to belong.

My one piece of advice for new transfer students
Get involved! Participate in orientation events, try a drop-in class at the Athletics center, see what the different clubs on campus have to offer. It's the best way to make connections, find what interests you, and it makes the school year so much more fun.
