Description
Session 1: Community-based research brings together the knowledge and research needs of the community with the research expertise of faculty and students. This session will include a panel of guests, representing each of these stakeholders. Questions will revolve around their experience participating in CBR, as it relates to community questions and partnerships.
Session 2: Community-based research can have a real impact, but only if it reaches those in a position to create positive change. This session will explore some of the many ways that community researchers can get their projects noticed, using traditional and more creative means. We will talk about knowledge mobilization and how it challenges us, as researchers, to think about what our message is and how we can best tailor it to reach our intended audience.
Session 3: It is imperative that CBR projects maintain the standards set by the Trent Research Ethics Board. Often, students experience difficulty navigating the application process. This workshop is designed to take students through the process and answer any questions they may have.
Workshop 1: In this workshop, participants will engage in activities and discussions around teamwork, communication, and how this relates to one’s work-life balance. Participants will be asked to reflect on their various roles and responsibilities and how they can prepare themselves to work as part of a team on CBR.
Workshop 2: This workshop will engage participants as they explore various approaches to CBR. Activities will focus on the practical application commonly used research methods, as well as the strengths and limitations of each.
Workshop 3: In this workshop, participants will learn strategies for collecting and analyzing data in the context of CBR. Several case examples will be explored and participants will be encouraged to connect these strategies to their own CBR project.
