- Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2019 - 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Room: Multi-purpose room
All are welcome to our first Aging & Society Seminar of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Dr. Nicole Dalmer will deliver "Informing Care: Tracing tensions in everyday information work in dementia care" and discuss the social organization of family caregivers' information work. Dr. Dalmer suggests that information work is one dimension of care work and she uses the concept of work to draw attention to the often-invisible nature of dealing with information.
Nicole Dalmer MLIS, PhD is postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Sociology at Trent University. Under the supervision of Dr. Barb Marshall and Dr. Stephen Katz, in collaboration with colleagues in Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands, she studies the role and integration of digital communication devices in later life. She recently completed her SSHRC-funded doctorate in Library and Information Science at The University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Information and Media Studies. Working at the intersections of information and care, she studied how changes in information availability, aging in place policies and contexts, and evolving family responsibilities collectively shape who is able and who is expected to be informed within family care contexts. [Nicole also studies and advocates for the development of more responsive public library services for aging populations. Her research has been published in Ageing & Society, Journal of Aging Studies, Dementia, and Library & Information Science Research.
