ABOUT 

University of the West Indies at Cave Hill is a public research university in Cave Hill, Barbados. It is one of five general campuses in the University of the West Indies system. Ranked among the top universities in the world by the most reputable ranking agency, Times Higher Education, The UWI is recognized as the premier higher education institution in the Caribbean. The UWI offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree options through its nine faculties of Culture, Creative and Performing Arts; Engineering; Humanities & Education; Law; Medical Sciences; Pure & Applied Sciences; Science and Agriculture; Social Sciences; and Sport. In Barbados, affiliated to The UWI, there is Codrington College which offers the Bachelor of Arts and the Licentiate in Theology; and the Caribbean Meteorological Institute which teaches the meteorology portion of the Bachelor of Science with Meteorology.

Who can apply?

  • Undergraduate (mainly) and graduate students enrolled in programs lending to the faculty above. 

  • Students must have a minimum cumulative average of 70% to apply. 

  • Please note that subject areas at partner universities may change. 

Academic Information 

How many credits equal a full course-load at Trent?  

A standard full-time study load normally consists of 24 credits in one academic year (there are two standard semesters in each academic year).  

  • Course load for one semester is 12 credits = 2.5 Trent credits  

  • Course load for full year is 24 credits = 5 Trent credits

Tuition/Program Fees 

  • Trent students are responsible to pay their normal Trent tuition fees as a full-time student plus Trent full ancillary fee package (no opt out options while abroad), tuition fees are waived at the host university.

Additional Fees

  • Immigration applications, accommodations, meals, flights, travel and health insurance, spending money, etc. 

Financial Support 

  • Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.
