Salomé Fleury (she/her)
Major: Business Administration
Salomé studied at Trent during the 2023.24 academic term. Her home institution is UCO (Catholic University of West) in Angers, France.
During her exchange she found many differences between Trent and UCO. One of the biggest was the choice of modules. At her home institution you select a program of study and the courses are determined by the university, you don’t choose your own courses and planning, but at Trent you have so many options. Also, you don’t have to buy expensive textbooks like here, you can rent the book at the library for free.
As well, in France they don’t have accommodation on campus so you have to rent an apartment or a homestay room which is cheaper then many of the residences. French universities are so much smaller than Trent.
QUESTIONS
Why did you decide to study at Trent/Canada?
I’ve been drawn to Canada for a long time. I wanted to study abroad to improve my English and to live an amazing experience. Trent University was the only university in the English part of Canada that I could choose. When I inquired about the university, the vibe pleased me. It is a very inclusive university surrounded by greenery, next to a big city (Toronto) to travel so that was perfect.
What expectations did you have of Canada before you arrived and how did they change upon arrival?
My principal expectation was to improve my English skills, in both comprehension and communication. I also wanted to discover another country, another culture and I wanted to travel a lot to discover North America. I was excited to surpass myself and live far from my family.
What are you most looking forward to during your exchange?
I am looking forward to coming back better than I was before. Whether in English, or by leaving alone, by doing things on my own without help, to no longer be afraid to go to people to talk, etc.
