QUESTIONS
Why did you decide to study in Canada?
I really like hiking and walking in the nature and Canada has lots of it. I also wanted to study in a country with a good education system and it should be a country with English as native language, to improve my English skills.
Why did you choose Trent University?
I went to a Presentation with the name “Study in North America” at my university. There, they presented different Universities in the USA and Canada. When they showed Trent University I was flashed by the beautiful pictures of the campus. I started to research if they have a Software Engineering program or something similar there. When I saw that they have a Computer Science program, I applied for a spot in the partner program.
What did you find most challenging about studying abroad?
I was really surprised by the food here. I expected it to be healthier in Canada. It tastes good, but it is much more common here to eat fast food and high calorie food than at home.
Were you able to travel?
During reading week, I rented a camper with friends and visited some national Parks in Ontario. I can really recommend it. The forests look really nice in autumn and there are many great landscapes to see. My favourite park is Silent Lake provincial park. It is only one hour by car, and it has a really nice walking route around the lake. The landscape is really beautiful. I also liked Algonquin provincial park. It is the provincial park in Ontario with the greatest area. You can make campfires in the evenings on the campgrounds and hike all the different trails during the day.
Did you live in residence or off-campus, and how was that experience?
I lived in the Gzowski Annex on-campus, and I really liked it. In the annexes are kitchens, what saved me a lot of money and I really like cooking for myself. It is also very good to live on campus, because it’s much easier to meet with people spontaneously. Even if the on-campus housing is more expensive than living off-campus, I would do it again.
What is one of your favourite memories from your time abroad?
I really liked the camper trip. The best moment was, when we were on the campground in silent lake provincial park and made a campfire in the evening and baked some bread over the fire, after a long hike around the lake.
