QUESTIONS

Why did you want to study abroad?

I wanted to have the opportunity to experience life in another country and see how they study and live day-to-day. I was also interested in having the opportunity to travel a lot during my time abroad as well.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Graz? How did you learn about it?

I was keen on going somewhere in central Europe and the University of Graz offered was a partner with Trent in that location. I chose Austria as it was a great location in central Europe that provided me with the opportunity to travel a lot. Additionally, it’s a very beautiful country with many gorgeous hikes and other outdoor activities.

What was your experience like? What were some of the differences & similarities with Trent?

In terms of courses, they were relatively similar although a bit more exam based with less assignments.

What did you find most challenging about studying abroad?

For me, the most difficult part was probably the first few days when you are in a new place and have not met many people yet.

In your opinion, what would you say are the benefits of studying abroad?

It gave me a chance to gain independence and put myself out there as I was meeting new people and trying new things. I feel as though it also gives you a good perspective to see how the world works in another country.

Were you able to travel?

Yes, I was very fortunate to be able to travel quite a lot over my exchange period. My favourite trips include; visiting the Austrian alps to snowboard, as well as the beaches in Croatia and the city of Budapest.

Travel advice might be to try out a short trip with people to see how you guys get along before agreeing to take a large trip together. This worked out great for my friends and I as we all were compatible and then planned a 2-week trip over the Easter Holiday.

What is one of your favourite memories from your time abroad?

My favourite memories include; skiing in the alps with my friends, visiting the Croatian beaches, and just spending time in the park / at a café with friends!

If someone told you they were thinking about studying abroad but weren’t convinced they should, what would you tell them?

I would say it’s not a decision that you would regret. I believe that it’s such a great experience and there is no reason not to do it if you are able to!
