Forensic Biology

Trent’s Forensic Biology degree gives you opportunities for hands-on forensic studies while advancing your expertise as a biological scientist. Students of this specialized program receive a comprehensive education in the study of living things, at the molecular, organism, and population level.

Here at Trent, you can apply your scientific knowledge in forensic labs as you practise case work, teamwork, and crime scene analysis.

Students in this program may also participate in a placement course where you can gain real-world experience and begin to develop your professional network.

Accelerated Masters

Fast-track your education, by earning your M.Sc. in Environmental & Life Sciences in only 12-16 months after graduating from your honours B.Sc.

  • Access to Trent’s new sector-leading Forensic Crime Scene Facility – a first-of-its-kind building constructed on a Canadian university campus – offering a unique opportunity to learn about and research crime scene investigations from cutting edge forensic science experts
  • A third-year work placement in a subdiscipline of your choice, which could include federal government internships with Border Services, RCMP, Health Canada, Food Inspection Services 
  • Opportunities to research and work directly with scientists in labs and professionals in the field
  • Direct access to leading experts in DNA profiling, and in the Forensic Science program, at the Natural Resources DNA Profiling and Forensics Centre, and in the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry

If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
  • A minimum 70% overall final average
  • ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%
