Indigenous Bachelor of Education
Indigenous Knowledge and perspectives are at the core of this unique B.Ed. program – the first of its kind in North America, Trent’s Indigenous B.Ed. provides a platform for self-identified First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Indigenous students to become exceptional future educators.
By developing a deeper understanding of and connection to Indigenous cultures, languages, and knowledge, you’ll learn to be a creative and conscious K-12 educator. Students of this fully-accredited concurrent five-year program develop the necessary tools to teach in any urban, rural, First Nation, Métis, Inuit (FNMI), or public school environment in Ontario, with certification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
A fully-accredited educational experience, this concurrent five-year program – the first of its kind in North America – allows students to complete three years of undergraduate studies and two years of professional studies that leads to certification.
- Get teaching experience in classrooms through practicum placements working alongside Indigenous educators or within an Indigenous community
- Experience Indigenous learning firsthand through unique events and resources at Trent, such as the Elders and Traditional Peoples Gathering, medicine gardens, and cultural programming
- Expand your communication skills by learning Mohawk or Anishinaabemowin languages, using this knowledge to connect with students in your classrooms

Requirements
If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
- A minimum 70% overall final average
- ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%
Program specific requirements:
- Self-identify as Indigenous and must have 70% average in six 4U/M credits including ENG4U (60% minimum for this course)
