Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)

Trent’s Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) prepares you to be more than just a teacher. 

This specialized two-year program – to be completed after your undergraduate degree – is built on philosophies of ecological and social justice, Indigenous Knowledge, and inclusivity. With a comprehensive curriculum, Trent’s B.Ed. provides a platform for students to become well-rounded educators committed to advancing the impact of education. 

The program prepares you to teach at the Primary/ Junior (K-Grade 6) or Intermediate/Senior levels (Grades 7-12). By graduation, you’ll have more than 100 days of work experience in classrooms and be certified to teach at any school in the province. 

The Consecutive B.Ed. is open to students with an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and a minimum 70% average.

Experiential Learning
  • Build your teaching experience with four classroom practicums including placements with local schools, students with special needs, or one-on-one tutoring
  • Expand your experience through the Alternative Settings Placement, completed over three weeks or 75 hours, engaging in opportunities that go beyond the classroom. Some examples include The Learning Garden, Gaming Lab, Kawartha Food Share, Eco-Mentorship Program and Camp fYrefly
  • Complete several eco- and social justice-based certificate programs to show future principals and employers your commitment to teaching environmental education to the next generation

Requirements

Generally, the Consecutive B.Ed. is open to those who have completed a three or four-year bachelor’s degree, with a minimum 70% in their most recent ten full course equivalents. Selection is based on equal weighting of academic achievement and related experience.

This is a competitive program and fulfilling the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
