International Law & Policy

In this specialization, you will study the political processes that influence economic and social systems and gain foundational expertise in international legal frameworks, all while building critical skills in law and global governance. 

With policy-focused placements, students also build hands on work experience and apply legal and political analyses to pressing global challenges. 

Courses

0.5 HURI credit at the first year level, 

  • Plus the following 1.5 credits: 
    • POST 2232H: Globalization: An Introduction 
    • POST 3605H: Developing and Communicating Public Policy 
    • HURI 3121: Human Rights Law and Institutions 

Plus an additional 2.0 credits of the following, with at least 0.5 from each column: 

  • Column A 
    • HURI 2001H: Law, violence, and transitional justice 
    • HURI 2151H: Gender, Human Rights and Development 
    • GDST- POST-CRIM-SOCI 3115H: Citizenship Rights and Development 
    • HURI 4001H: Human Rights Honours Seminar 
    • GDST–POST 4260H: Global Governance and Social Justice 
  • Column B 
    • POST 2282H: Foreign Policy Analysis: An Introduction 
    • POST 3092H: Law and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms 
    • POST-ADMN-ECON 3123H: The Politics of Global Finance 
    • POST-CAST-CRIM-SOCI 3422H: Dimensions of Poverty 
    • POST-ADMN-GDST-SOCI 4255H: Globalization and the Politics of Work 

Plus 0.5 credit from: 

  • HURI 4220Y*: Community-based Research Methods and Project (to be renamed) 
  • POST 4850H: Public Policy Field Placement 

*If you take this course then you are only required to take 1.5 in elective category above.
