Back-to-back Champions: Trent Excalibur Capture 2026 OUA Women's Lacrosse Title on Home Turf
Excalibur defeat Laurier 16-3 in front of 500 fans at Justin Chiu Stadium to claim their second consecutive Patterson Cup
The Trent Excalibur women's lacrosse team are back-to-back Ontario University Athletics (OUA) champions after defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 16-3 in the gold medal game of the 2026 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Excalibur entered the championship as the OUA's top seed following an undefeated 8-0 regular season, while Laurier finished sixth. An undefeated post season run capped off a perfect 11-0 season for Trent and extended the team's winning streak to 14 games.
Winning in front of 500 fans at Justin Chiu Stadium made the back-to-back championship especially meaningful for the Excalibur, who claimed last year's Patterson Cup on the road in Waterloo.
“To have everyone there supporting us – our families, alumni and athletics department – and to see everyone come together to celebrate what we’ve worked so hard to achieve, it’s an unreal feeling,” said Jocelyne Lemay, Excalibur women’s lacrosse head coach.
The Excalibur controlled the championship game from start to finish, with Kylie Dobson (Oshawa, ON) leading offence with five goals and Maddy Baxter (Whitby, ON) adding a hat trick. Trent goalkeeper Sav Musto (Stouffville, Ont.) was named Player of the Game after stopping 15 of Laurier's 18 shots on goal. Kate Ferguson, Delaney Keen and Teneike Gedge each scored for the Golden Hawks.
Following the championship game, the OUA major award winners and all-stars were recognized. With recipients nominated by head coaches from participating schools, three Excalibur athletes earned a total of four honours:
- OUA Most Valuable Defender: Maggie Cuddy (Brooklin, Ont.)
- OUA All-Star – Midfielder: Maddy Baxter
- OUA All-Star – Attacker: Kylea Dobson
- OUA All-Star – Defender: Maggie Cuddy
The celebrations continued beyond the field, as the Excalibur marked their championship victory with a plunge into the Otonabee River, following in the footsteps of other Trent teams that have celebrated home championship wins the same way.
The victory marks the fifth OUA championship in program history, adding to previous titles in 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2025, and further solidifies Trent's place among the province's top women's lacrosse programs.
