Great Spirit in September 2013 Orientation at Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road Campus

Trent University Oshawa Welcomes New and Returning Students

First-year Trent Oshawa students are well supported and now prepared for a new academic session, after enjoying orientation activities in September. A creative line-up of fun events prepared by staff, faculty and students included ninja icebreakers and a drum circle, in addition to academic and information sessions, and financial-aid walk-ins. Orientation sessions provided social mix and mingle opportunities, seminar 101 information sessions, and academic sessions. Topics included listening and note-taking, essay writing, math skills, time management, and a library overview.

Hear from first-year Trent Oshawa students and student leaders about their orientation experiences:

“Everyone was really helpful, it was easy to follow everything, and to find help. The drum circle was great; it got everybody pumped up for the day.” -Meghan Duval

“My favourite part about orientation was finally being able to meet people in this area! I’m from Cornwall, and just moved here for school. The arcade was also really fun; it was awesome because I’m so good at arcade games. I got so many tickets; I won lots of prizes.”

-JP St.Louis

“Bowling was so much fun! It was also really great to walk around at lunch and meet people from all of the different clubs. I’ll probably get involved with the Pen Pal Program, and the Ski Club.”

-Jessica Henning

“My favourite part was to see how involved all of the students are! Everyone enjoyed the icebreakers. Everybody had a great time and it was very well organized.”

-Tyler Podlowski

I really enjoyed the drum circle; it really united and brought everyone together. It was incredible to feel the music that much. In such an intimate setting, the drumming was really powerful.

-Patrick Fox

“I enjoyed the fun spirit between our leaders. They had so much fun with us, it was like a musical all day! At orientation the Ninja icebreaker was my favourite part.”

-Amanda Disher
