HR, Marketing and Entrepreneurship Grad Avica Singh Built Leadership and Career Foundations at Trent Durham
Involvement with the Trent Durham Student Association helped Singh gain experience in communications, community engagement, and a lasting connection to campus
After undergraduate studies disrupted by COVID-19, Avica Singh ’22 arrived at Trent University Durham GTA determined to fully embrace campus life. Through her studies in Human Resources, Marketing & Entrepreneurship post-graduate certificate program and her involvement with the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA), she quickly turned that goal into leadership experience and a pathway to a career on campus.
“The hustle is real,” she says of her experience as an international student, navigating life away from her close-knit family. But Trent Durham quickly became a second home. “You see the same people every day, it feels like a community where everyone knows you, and everyone’s there to help you.”
Singh chose Trent because the program offered a unique combination of marketing and human resource management, and once on campus, she looked for opportunities to extend her learning of these topics beyond the classroom.
Getting involved with the TDSA opened the door to student advocacy and campus leadership. Singh served as vice-president of campus life, helping organize initiatives and activities that strengthened the student community.
“I never thought I’d get involved with student advocacy,” she says. “But the experience was incredibly rewarding. I had so much fun interacting with students and helping build that sense of community.”
After graduating, Singh decided to remain part of the campus community, applying for a full-time role with the TDSA, where she continues to support students and campus initiatives.
