Trent School of Business Earns National Sales Training Endorsement and Students Are Already Seeing Results
New industry-recognized training at Trent connects classroom learning to real-world practice, launching one student’s fast-track to employment
At Trent University, a new approach to sales education is already paying off.
Fourth-year Business Administration student Camryn Christie (Champlain College) learned to sell and is now graduating with a job offer in hand.
Her experience comes as Trent’s School of Business becomes an Institute for Sales Professionals (ISP) Endorsed Training Provider, giving students access to industry-aligned learning, career development opportunities, and a professional credential that sets them apart.
“Sales skills are essential to nearly every career path,” Dr. Ken Chen, associate director and associate professor in the Trent School of Business. “By aligning our curriculum with the ISP’s international standards, we are equipping students with competencies employers worldwide are actively seeking.”
Recognizing the demand, the first dedicated sales course launched in Fall 2025, ADMN-3460H: Selling: 0 to 10, quickly filling and becoming one of the School’s most sought-after offerings.
The course was a turning point for Camryn.
Encouraged by her professor David Blakely, she entered the Canadian University Sales Competition, a national event that brings together top business students to test their skills in live, simulated sales scenarios.
“The mentorship and real-world approach in the sales course made all the difference,” Camryn said. “We were learning theory and practicing prospecting, negotiation, and closing. The hands-on experience and firsthand industry insight gave me the confidence to compete and connect with employers.”
One of those employers was Owner.com, a fast-growing technology company supporting restaurants with online ordering and marketing. After a series of interviews leading up to the competition — and an in-person meeting at the event — Camryn secured a full-time role as a sales development representative in Toronto.
Her experience points to what’s ahead as Trent continues to explore expanded course offerings and forge applied learning opportunities tied directly to workforce needs.
“Trent has a rich history in delivering entrepreneurship-focused business education,” said Matthew Nicolle, president and CEO of ISP Canada. “The investment made to have the program certified is a testament to their commitment to offering exceptional sales education to future generations of sales professionals.”
