Supply Chain Management Student Pursuing Career in Global Operations, Trade
International student Isaac Aguilar Guerra shares how Trent Durham’s one-of-a-kind program connects business, tech, and economics
When Isaac Aguilar Guerra arrived at Trent University Durham GTA from Panama, he already understood how goods, markets, and trade move across borders. Coming from a country shaped by international trade, Isaac developed a strong mindset for global connections.
“Supply chain is inherently global. Having experience with how businesses operate in another part of the world adds a different lens," said Isaac.
He saw the fit in Trent’s Bachelor of Arts in Supply Chain Management immediately. In the program, offered exclusively at the Durham GTA campus, Isaac is learning a blend of business, economics, and computing to prepare for work in global industries.
“I was interested in many different fields. This program brings them together and opens up opportunities across industries. I'm learning how to code and how businesses actually use different software,” he said. “Since the program is a smaller group of students, I'm really able to connect with my professors and thrive. You build relationships from the beginning, which helps you feel supported throughout your university experience.”
That support extends across campus. Isaac points to Academic Advising, Library research help, and Careerspace as key to his success, along with Trent International’s guidance on immigration and student life. He also worked in the Library, gaining hands-on experience alongside his studies. Now in his third year, Isaac is looking ahead to a career with a multinational company, possibly tied to major trade routes like the Panama Canal.
"Being part of the Trent community has changed how I see my future. I feel like I belong here, and am building the foundation of my career here.”
