A DO NOT miss event! On Tuesday, April 7, Trent University hosts its 10th annual The Last Lecture.
The Last Lecture was originally created in 2015 by Jamie Lester, an Otonabee College alum and former college cabinet president. Lester's aim was to unite the graduating class before convocation, fostering celebration and reminiscence of their time at Trent.
The event provides graduating students (but open to all students!) the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on their university experiences and achievements. The event features inspiring talks from four speakers, nominated by the Trent community.
This year's esteemed speakers are:
Student speaker: Kevin Santos
Kevin is a fourthyear Biomedical Sciences student whose leadership, service, and community engagement have left a lasting mark on Trent, seamlessly connecting academics, wellness, and belonging.
Faculty speaker: Jack Hoggarth
Jack Hoggarth is the Chair of Anishinaabe Knowledge and an Assistant Professor whose work bridges academic scholarship with lived Anishinaabeg teachings, grounded in deep connection to his home communities.
Staff speaker: Melanie Buddle
As Principal of Peter Gzowski College and an interdisciplinary educator, she has shaped student success at Trent through her commitment to academic leadership, cocurricular learning, and creating meaningful, supportive educational experiences.
Alumni speaker (and Chancellor of Trent University): Stephen Stohn ’66
Dr. Stephen Stohn is a distinguished entertainment lawyer, producer, songwriter, and author whose career has shaped Canadian television, music, and media for more than five decades. A proud Trent alumnus and longtime supporter, he helped establish enduring campus institutions such as Arthur and Trent Radio and later strengthened the University through transformative philanthropic leadership. His achievements, recognized by the Order of Canada, multiple Canadian Screen Awards, and induction into the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame, reflect a lifelong commitment to creativity, mentorship, and community.
As Trent’s outgoing chancellor, Stephen will conclude his term this June. His appearance at this event offers a wonderful opportunity for students, alumni, staff, and faculty to thank him for his exceptional service and to wish him well as he embarks on his next chapter.
Please register in advance as seating is capped. We look forward to seeing you there!
