New video series showcases President Cathy Bruce in on-the-move conversations with Trent experts about issues shaping our world

Making Strides

What does it mean to age well in Canada? Is democracy working? How is immigration shaping Canada’s future? These are the timely, thought-provoking questions explored in the first three episodes of Making Strides, a new video series from Trent University that delves into complex issues through thoughtful, in-motion dialogue between Dr. Cathy Bruce, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University, and the Trent experts whose work is helping shape what comes next.

“At Trent University, we believe learning is sparked through connection – with others and with the questions and topics that matter,” says President Cathy Bruce. “Making Strides provides the opportunity to walk alongside Trent’s experts, challenging us to think differently and walk together toward deeper understanding.”

Filmed on campus, the first three episodes – available now at trentu.ca/makingstrides – feature:

  • Dr. Elizabeth Russell, associate professor of Psychology, speaking on aging and intergenerational connection
  • Dr. Cristine de Clercy, Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership, discussing the state of democracy in Canada
  • Dr. David Firang, professor of Social Work, exploring immigration, equity, and community

New episodes of Making Strides will be released monthly, continuing the conversation on complex and timely issues shaping our world. Upcoming episodes will explore such topics as artificial intelligence, carbon and climate, housing and homelessness, reconciliation, youth mental health, and the future of nursing—showcasing Trent’s commitment to research that responds to real challenges and sparks meaningful dialogue. As the series evolves, it will highlight the depth of expertise across disciplines at Trent and create space for new perspectives to enter the conversation.
