Belleville Police Service Inspector of Operations advances her skills and experience through Trent’s micro-credential certificate in Senior Police Leadership

A cut out photo of Police Inspector Sheri Meeks on a dark green background. There is white text on the right side that says, "Senior Police Leadership micro-credential certificate aims to advance police services expertise and skills across Canada."
Inspector Sheri Meeks gained value from her experience earning her Senior Police Leadership micro-credential certificate, where she learned from her instructors, retired police leaders, and classmates.

Sheri Meeks, inspector of operations at the Bellville Police Service, chose to take Trent University’s Senior Police Leadership micro-credential certificate to gain additional skills and knowledge she could take back to implement in her organization.

“It enhanced my own learning, and I shared that with my senior management team. We changed things that we were doing at the time so that we were better serving our employees and progressing our processes,” she said.

Meeks has been working in policing for 28 years and has been an inspector for almost eight years. Even with her vast experience, she said, “I’m always looking to gain more leadership knowledge and skills. Continuous learning is a big passion of mine.”

One of Meeks’ most valuable takeaways from the program was her interactions with her professors and classmates. Together, they were able to learn from each other's varied experiences and career journeys.

“The combination of the instructors in this course, like retired police leaders in all different areas of departments, on top of the academics, really gives you that breadth of knowledge and experience that you look for as a working professional student.”

A big benefit of the program was engaging with others in her cohort. “Learning about our different journeys and having some of the different group discussions and group work projects was so impactful for me in terms of what I took away that I can use in my everyday career.”

Trent University’s Senior Police Leadership online micro-credential certificate aims to advance expertise and skills within members of police services in Ontario and across Canada. Police services and police boards are adapting and responding to complex accountability, legal and governance frameworks as the communities they serve also change.

Register for the Senior Police Leadership micro-credential certificate today.
