More Information

The Harry Kitchen Lecture Series. Andrew Coyne presents "Canada's Growth Crisis: Causes, Consequences, and Cures"

Description: Sluggish economic growth has long been a concern for Canada, especially in light of population aging and its costs. Lately, however, slow growth has been replaced by a new and even more alarming prospect: no growth, or even contraction, at least in per capita terms — not just in the short run but, it seems, indefinitely. What are the causes of this crisis? What are the implications? And what can be done about it?

This event will be recorded and live streamed.

Speaker Bio

Andrew Coyne is a columnist for The Globe and Mail. Raised in Winnipeg, Mr. Coyne is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the London School of Economics‎. He was formerly Opinion Editor at The National Post, National Editor at Maclean’s and national columnist for Southam News. In addition, his writing has appeared in a wide range of other publications in Canada and abroad, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Review, and The Walrus. He is also a weekly panelist on CBC’s The National.

Community Speaker Series

Sharing knowledge is one of the ways Trent University gives back to our host communities and provides life long learning experiences to alumni. Each year, Trent offers open lectures featuring visiting faculty and experts, sharing ideas on subjects such as the Environment, Gender & Women's Studies, Business & Society, Chemistry, Cultural Studies, and Indigenous Studies. These talks are free and open to the Trent and broader communities. These lectures are made possible thanks to generous donor support.
