Winter holiday begins Friday, December 22, 2023.  

Most academic and administrative operations at Trent University in Peterborough and Durham GTA close for the winter holiday break at 12 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, and reopen on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Please call ahead, as individual office hours may vary.  

Classes resume at both campuses on Monday, January 8, for the winter semester.  

Student Residences

The Student Housing Office – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens on Wednesday, January 3, at 9 a.m.  

Peterborough – Undergraduate residences close on Thursday, December 21, at 11 a.m. and reopen on Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7, at 9 a.m.  

Graduate residences at Traill College remain open during the winter break.  

Durham – Residence closes on Thursday, December 21, at 11 a.m. and reopens on Saturday, January 6, at 9 a.m.  

At both campuses, only students who have registered and received confirmation of their acceptance to the winter break will be permitted in residence during the break period.  

Risk Management and Security Operations

Campus Security will remain on duty 24/7 throughout the holiday season. All building exterior doors, labs and classrooms will remain locked. Access cards will continue to allow entry to non-residence buildings. You are required to inform Campus Security (see contact info below) if you must access a campus building during the break. Persons without access cards and/or keys to non-residence buildings will require prior written approval from their department head that clearly specifies the time(s) and location(s) of required access. Please contact Campus Security to gain access under these circumstances.

Library Services

Bata Library

Bata Library will close for the holiday break on Thursday, December 21, at 7 p.m. The library will reopen from January 3 – 5 for reduced hours, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., and will then be closed on Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7. Access to online library collections is always available remotely. 

Starting Monday, January 8, Bata Library will reopen for regular hours. Please check the Library website for full details. 

Durham Library & Learning Centre  

The Durham Library & Learning Centre (DLLC) will close on Thursday, December 21, at 4 p.m.  

Access to online library collections, research support, information services, copyright, and reading list support will be available remotely.  

The DLLC will reopen on Wednesday, January 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will then be closed on Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7. Please check the Library website for full details. 

College Offices

The Colleges of Trent University will close on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. Colleges will reopen in January as follows: Champlain, Otonabee and Gzowski College Offices will reopen on Wednesday, January 3. Lady Eaton College Office will reopen on Thursday, January 4, and Traill College office will reopen on Monday, January 8.  

Student Wellness

Accessibility Services – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Monday, January 8, at 9 a.m. 

Counselling Services – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Monday, January 8, at 9 a.m.  

Health Services – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Monday, January 8, at 9 a.m.  

Peer Support – is currently closed and reopens Monday, January 8, at 12 p.m. 

Other University and Student Services  

Athletics Centre – closes between December 24 – December 26. The Athletics Centre will be open from December 27 – December 31 with adjusted hours, then closed on January 1. Holiday hours will continue until January 8, when regular hours will resume. Check the Athletics Centre website for adjusted holiday hours.  

Academic Advising – will have same-day appointments available up to Wednesday, December 20, at 4 p.m. and resume on Monday, January 8, at 9 a.m. 

Academic Skills – will have appointments available up to Wednesday, December 20 and resume Monday, January 8, at 9 a.m. Please refer to the website for details about booking appointments.  

Campus Card Office – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens on Wednesday, January 3, at 9 a.m.  

Campus Food Services – For more information on holiday hours and available services, visit the Dining on Campus website.  

Campus Tours – will be closed on Friday, December 22. Visit the Discover Trent webpage to see all the ways you can connect with us virtually. In-person tours will resume on Monday, January 8. Book your 2024 tour now.  

Careerspace – closes Thursday, December 21, at 4 p.m. and reopens Monday, January 8, at 8:30 a.m. Visit the website for details about remote appointments and booking.  

First Peoples House of Learning – will be closed on Friday, December 22 and reopen on Wednesday, January 3. 

Human Resources/Payroll – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m.  

I.T. Service Desk – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 4:30 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m.  

Office of the Registrar – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m. 

Parking Services – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens on Wednesday, January 3, at 8 a.m. 

Campus Print & Shipping and Receiving Centre – closes Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m.  

Student Accounts – closes on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3. 

School of Graduate Studies – closes from Wednesday, December 20, at 4 p.m. and reopens Wednesday, January 3, at 9 a.m.  

Trent Campus Store – closes Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. and remains open for online orders. Campus Store will reopen on Wednesday, January 3, at 8:30 a.m. All orders placed during the holiday closure will be completed on January 3.  

The Student Centre, including Starbucks, will be open for regular hours starting Wednesday, January 3.
