Innovative Resource on Understanding Homelessness Wins 2023 Open Assets Award for Excellence | OEGlobal
Open Education Global (OEGlobal) recently unveiled the winners of the 2023 Open Education Awards for Excellence, with Trent University receiving special recognition for their contributions to open education. Their interactive book, Understanding Homelessness in Canada: From the Street to the Classroom, was a collaborative project involving individuals with lived experience of homelessness and key members of the research team, including Dr. Kristy Buccieri and Dr. Cyndi Gilmer as well as expertise from Trent Online's team, including Stephanie Ferguson, James Bailey, and Josh Andrews. This multidimensional approach ensures that learners can choose the format that suits their preferences and learning styles.

Trent University’s Dr. Erick Laming is taking a new approach to online education with one of his criminology courses, leveraging the power of podcasts to engage students in a more interactive and flexible learning experience. Designed by Terry Greene, senior eLearning designer for Trent Online, the course combines audio and visual components, breaking away from traditional recorded video lectures, with a conversational format. This forward-thinking initiative caters to students' diverse learning preferences and allows them to engage with the content, even while on the move. With the podcast format, online learning becomes more accessible and adaptable to today's tech-savvy students.
