Interested in a career with the RCMP? Wish you could ask someone what it is like working with the RCMP but not sure who to ask?
Come to Bata Library Room 103 (Bata Film Library) October 5th at 3pm (or drop in before 4pm!) and meet Trent Alumni Corporal Maureen Greyeyes-Brant and Inspector Beth Rolston.
Cpl. Maureen Greyeyes-Brant is a strong Plains Cree Saskatchewan woman from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation who has been welcomed and adopted into the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte located on the territory of Tyendinaga in Ontario.
Prior to joining the RCMP as a regular member in February 2001, Maureen completed her undergraduate degree in Native Studies with honors at Trent University in 1999. After her educational studies, Maureen joined the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) as a Policy Communication Intern.
From 2001 to 2007, Maureen gained invaluable experience as a general duty frontline member while posted in Swan River, Manitoba.
From December 2007 to present day, Maureen has worked for and gained invaluable experience in many different RCMP units throughout her law enforcement career after transferring to National Headquarters.
Here are some of her career highlights:
- The National Coordinator of the Drugs and Organized Crime Awareness Service's (DOCAS) Aboriginal Shield Program (ASP)
- Becoming the first ever-Proactive Indigenous Recruiter for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) for the entire organization nationally
- Working at the National Recruiting Program (NRP) as the National Coordinator of the Aboriginal Pre-Cadet Training Program (APTP), now known as the Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program (IPTP) and as a Proactive Indigenous Recruiter
- Assuming the role within National Crime Prevention Services (NCPS) and then onto the Vulnerable Persons Unit (VPU) as the Family Violence Coordinator and the Funding Manager of the Family Violence Initiative Fund (FVIF)
- Promoted into the RCMP Indigenous Relations Services (RIRS) as a Policy and Program Analyst in January 2018
- Recently, she has been honoured to undertake a year long assignment with the newly created RCMP Indigenous Collaboration, Co-Development, Accountability (RICCA) team
Maureen has recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary with her husband with whom she met when she was only seventeen years old. They have two children, a son who is attending his second year of university at Trent and a daughter-starting grade eleven. Do not get her started on talking about Native beading because she will not stop once the floodgates open. She loves it that much.
