#FacesOfTrentU: First Year Student Joins Varsity Rowing Team

Kendall Rose, Lady Eaton College, Health & Behaviour Science

Kendall Rose stands in front of Justin Chiu stadium, arms crossed, looking into the camera from behind glasses. To her right is the text, back to belonging.

When Kendall Rose applied to post-secondary schools, there was one obvious choice – Trent University. In grade 12, Kendall had come to Trent to compete in Head of the Trent and instantly fell in love with the environment.

“Rowing through the canal for the first time and having everyone cheer me on is an experience like no other,” says Kendall. “So when I was applying for universities, it was a no-brainer to apply to Trent.”

Becoming a varsity rower in her first year is nerve wracking, but Kendall says the environment has been nothing but supportive.

“Walking into my first day of training camp with the experience I had versus most of my teammates having at least one year of collegiate racing, I was a little scared, but everyone welcomed me with open arms,” says Kendall. “I have not had a coach for a while and jumping into a team where there were two coaches I was very curious what a team like would look like, but I have already noticed a big improvement in my rowing.”

“Representing Trent at such an early age is definitely a lot, but I am ready to accept the challenge and do my best.”

What’s next for Kendall?

Having a supportive community surrounding her from a young age is what shaped Kendall’s experience, and her hope is that her education at Trent can put her in a similar position to support future generations.

“I hope my education at Trent leads me to a teaching position somewhere in the sciences, I have been coaching kids from a young age and would love to continue shaping young minds!”
