At both Trent and Swansea, students will gain career-ready skills and global perspectives as they prepare for futures as leaders in healthcare.

A unique new Bachelor of Arts & Science (B.A.S.) / Medical Sciences dual degree program offered through Trent University and Swansea University in the UK offers students the opportunity to complete two degrees in four years, preparing for careers as medical professionals while gaining international experience.

“Trent’s elite Bachelor of Arts and Science program is renowned for attracting high achieving students who are interested in the intersections between arts and science,” says Dr. Mark Skinner, dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Trent. “We are pleased to partner with Swansea University to offer our students the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and experience through international learning as they prepare for careers as well-rounded professionals in the healthcare sector.”

Students enrolled in the new integrated four-year dual degree program will spend their first two years crossing interdisciplinary boundaries in the B.A.S. program at Trent before heading to Wales to complete a B.Sc. in one of Swansea University’s dedicated medical pathway programs, including Applied Medical Science, Medical Pharmacology, or Population Health and Medical Science. Students will graduate with two degrees in just four years and graduates who meet academic requirements will be guaranteed an interview into Swansea’s prestigious School of Medicine.

“This latest collaboration is another exciting development and testimony to the world-class teaching, research and innovation we offer here in Swansea,” says Dr. Keith Lloyd, dean of Medicine at Swansea University. “We look forward to the arrival of our Trent students and helping them to become future health professionals, educators, researchers and life scientists.”

High achieving students in the program, interested in taking their education further, will also have the option of completing a graduate degree at Swansea, transferring to a Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry or Medical Genetics.

“Trent’s broad, yet focused, B.A.S. degree aligns very well with Swansea’s medical professional programs,” says Dr. Jessica Marion Barr, B.A.S. program coordinator at Trent. “Through this partnership, students interested in a career in medicine will have a distinct advantage upon graduation. The combination of skills – creativity, interdisciplinary thinking, problem solving – together with hands-on research and analytical experience, will open myriad career opportunities in the medical and life sciences sectors.”

The Trent/Swansea B.A.S./Medical Sciences dual degree, launching in fall 2021, is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two institutions, following the creation of the popular Trent/Swansea Law & Arts/Law & Business dual degree in 2016, and the Trent/Swansea Chemical Engineering dual degree launched in 2018.

Applications for the new dual degree program remain open for September. Learn more about the program.
