Kasandra Brick found a resourceful and a supportive community to further education and knowledge

Kassandra Brick Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Student

When fourth-year Biochemistry and Molecular Biology student Kasandra Brick was searching to transfer to a university, she found everything she needed close to home at Trent University—a fully-stocked lab, expertise and a supportive community.

“Before I decided to transfer to Trent, I thought about what I wanted to have as a part of my experience,” reflects Ms. Brick who completed the General Arts and Science - University Transfer curriculum at Fleming College, an academic partner to Trent. “I enjoy laboratories most of all and was pleasantly surprised with the resources and equipment that were available for Trent undergraduate students to use. I was very excited to learn of the different techniques taught to the students.”

Freedom to focus

“My favourite part of Trent is being in the lab,” Ms Brick adds. “I love to see the different reactions in person. Working as a thesis student and TA this year has definitely aided in broadening my knowledge.”

Ms. Brick also appreciates the diversity of programs she found at Trent.

“It feels like you have more freedom to really focus on your interests.”

In addition to ample facilities and learning supports, she discovered remarkable communication between students and faculty on the small campus.

“I also enjoy being a part of a community that is inclusive,” said Ms. Brick. “I had a better experience then I thought I ever would with such an accepting group of faculty and students.”

Tailor-made education for a scientific future

To prepare for possible careers such as teaching Chemistry or working in a professional laboratory, Ms. Brick plans to complete a master’s degree in Materials Science at Trent.

“I like that I will have a master’s degree, while also pursuing my own interests.”

Extremely happy with the knowledge she acquired at Trent, she is confident that other students transferring to the university will come to the same conclusion.

“I am very excited to continue my education through my graduate studies. I hope that other students are able to attend Trent to truly know what an amazing experience it is.”
