Full-time positions, field placements and co-ops among career opportunities available at first-ever joint virtual expo for students

Career + Experiences Expo 2021

Thursday, January 14, 2021, Peterborough

Trent University and Fleming College have teamed up to deliver the first virtual Career & Experiences Expo, featuring industry-specific sessions and career-building resources, and showcasing a variety of employment and experiential learning opportunities for students and recent graduates.

The Career & Experiences Expo series will take place weekly from January 14 to February 4, with industry-specific sessions tailored to fields of study, including: health and wellness, community development and justice, business and computers, and natural resources and the environment. The connections made during the online events can lead to internships, placements, summer jobs, and post-graduation careers.

“Through guaranteed career experiences inside and outside the classroom, our students are developing the skills to become sought-after candidates for competitive placements and opportunities with top employers,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor at Trent University. “Through this virtual event, Trent is pleased to partner with Fleming to showcase our students and recent grads to prospective employers and connect them to career opportunities with employers who help make the Peterborough and Durham regions such vibrant and prosperous communities to live and study.”

This new partnership between Trent University’s Careerspace and Fleming College’s Career Services will bring more career and experiential learning opportunities to students in a virtual format for the first time, utilizing an online tool designed specifically to allow students to network, research employment opportunities, and to meet and interview with prospective employers in real-time.

“Through all the challenges faced by the Fleming community over the past year, our students and faculty have persisted by coming up with safe and creative solutions. The first virtual Career & Experiences Expo in partnership with Trent is an example of that,” said Maureen Adamson, Fleming College President. “These sessions will give students a chance to explore the variety of opportunities available in their fields and for recruiters to connect with the rich pool of talent at our institutions.”

Highlights of the 2021 Career & Experiences Expo include:

  • Chat one-on-one with recruiters from over 60 local companies that are actively hiring for full-time summer jobs and post-graduation employment, as well as internships and co-op placements
  • Network with local organizations
  • Explore opportunities available in your field through sector-specific events, including health and wellness, community development and justice, business and computers, and natural resources and environmental programs.
  • Learn more about Trent Careerspace and Fleming Career Services

Space in future sessions is still available for interested employers. Employers who would like to participate in the Expo are encouraged to contact Careerspace at worklink@trentu.ca.

Students or recent grads who would like to register for the Expo can visit trentu.ca/sep.
