Event Details
-
Wednesday, November 11, 2020
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
On Wednesday, November 11, Trent University will mark Remembrance Day, offering our gratitude to veterans and active members of Canada’s Armed Forces. We pay tribute to the men and women who have bravely defended our nation’s values and freedoms.
In honour of Remembrance Day, the Trent community is encouraged to participate in observances or events virtually through offerings led by Trent or within our local communities. Whether you are on-campus or learning and working remotely, there are a few ways that you can participate in a meaningful way:
Campus Observances
- Virtual Observance: Beginning at approximately 10:55 a.m. a video service will air on Trent’s Remembrance Day website that incorporates select footage from Veteran Affairs, the playing of the Last Post and two-minutes of silence and reflection
- Digital displays on both campuses will show a silent montage produced by the Royal Canadian Legion
Community Events
- City of Peterborough – Due to COVID-19, the annual Remembrance Day parade has been cancelled. An abbreviated ceremony will take place at the Peterborough Cenotaph, with individuals being encouraged to observe the day from their own homes. On November 11, Cogeco TV will be airing a program featuring local clips of past Remembrance Day Ceremonies to help the community reflect from home.
- City of Oshawa – Due to COVID-19, community members are encouraged to observe the annual ceremony virtually from their homes. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. on November 11 community members are invited to watch the virtual 2020 Remembrance Day ceremony by tuning in to the live broadcast from their computers or mobile devices. The ceremony will feature:
- laying of the wreaths;
- remembrance ceremony;
- and closing remarks.
- The National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa will be broadcast by the Royal Canadian Legion over their Facebook page beginning at 10:45 a.m. View the national broadcast platform.
For those unable to participate in a formal virtual observance, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the exact same time as marked the signing of the Armistice to end the Great War (WW1) – the Trent community is encouraged to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of those who have served. Please consider this when leading virtual or in-person classes or meetings.
To mark Remembrance Day, the flag atop the Bata Library and the flag on the east side of the Trent Durham GTA campus will be lowered to half-mast the morning of November 11.
