Ms. Nichols was a dedicated staff member for close to three decades

The Trent University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Debra (Deb) Nichols, a long-time employee with the University for 27 years.

Ms. Nichols began her career at Trent In 1989 as the secretary of the Bookstore. In 1994 she moved to be the secretary in the Academic Skills Centre, working in this role until becoming the publications coordinator in Academic Skills in early 2002. Ms. Nichols continued her long career at Trent as the Traill College assistant in 2009 and held this position until her retirement on September 1, 2016.

"Deb's love for the College was fierce. She saw Traill as an extension of herself," said Traill College principal Dr. Michael Eamon. "Deb worked hard to ensure it was always a place of beauty and particularly enjoyed interacting with students. She also played a key role in the management of Trent's Continuing Education program and was instrumental in its recent revitalization."

Below is an excerpt from her obituary notice:

Debra Nichols, age 67, passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Center, on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Deb Nichols of Lakefield was a 27-year employee of Trent University. Beloved wife of Ronald "Ron" Nichols. Loving mother of Jason "Cory" Nichols (Brandy). Deb is fondly remembered by her grandchildren Abbygail and Tyler. Deb is survived by her brother Rob Mace (Lise), nieces Jennifer (Anton), Michelle and great-niece Emma. Dear Cousin of Brad (Val), Leslie Cowan, Candace (Raf), and Sophie. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. The family is planning a private celebration of life at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Yellow Ribbon Campaign.

Trent University extends heartfelt sympathies to Ms. Nichols’ family and friends, and to all who knew her at Trent University.
