Virtual celebrations planned for Trent Alumni Homecoming

In light of the impacts of the global pandemic, Trent University and the Peterborough Rowing Club have made a decision to cancel the 2020 Head of the Trent Regatta, and postpone the 50th anniversary of the event until 2021.

A week of virtual celebrations will replace the annual alumni Homecoming event that usually takes place on the same weekend at the end of September/early October. Updates and more information is available at trentu.ca/hotr.

“The safety of our students, alumni, visiting athletes, families and community members is paramount,” says Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, Trent University. “We looking forward to celebrating 50 years of rowing and welcoming everyone to campus in 2021. We invite alumni to connect with us virtually to celebrate Homecoming in a new way this year.”

More details of the cancellation and postponement of activities is as follows:

Rowing Regatta
The two-day head race down the Otonabee River has been a major event on the rowing circuit for 49 years. Past and current rowers are invited to join us in 2021 as we celebrate 50 years of the Head of the Trent Regatta with a return to racing and an evening social. For updates and information, please visit the Peterborough Rowing Club website: peterboroughrowingclub.com.

Alumni Homecoming
The Trent University Alumni Association is planning a virtual Homecoming 2020 celebration that will be an event to remember. Designed to provide alumni with the opportunities to reconnect with Trent, former professors and friends, an exciting week of online programming will include College commons hangouts, giveaways, Alumni Award presentations, Excalibur Insights talks, and more. Virtual events will run Tuesday, September 29 through Saturday, October 3. Visit mycommunity.trentu.ca/homecoming for more details and to register.

Excalibur Varsity Games
Ontario University Athletics (OUA) previously announced the cancellation of all OUA-sanctioned sport programming and championships up to December 31, 2020. The Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association, which oversees the men’s varsity lacrosse program, has also cancelled the 2020 season. Head of the Trent Swag
Each year, the Trent University Rowing Club (TURC) hosts the campus beer garden as their major fundraiser, helping to purchase equipment and support training. To commemorate this unique year in our history, the TURC is creating a “49.5” beer stein, shirt and other merchandise. Available soon to pre-order, these collector’s edition items will assist with their ongoing fundraising goals. Visit trentrowing.ca for updates.
