Careerspace Offering Virtual Career Education and Services to Students
Career services remain available to students to support employment searches during active physical distancing measures
Summer for university students has officially started, but as many of them plan to use the next four months to work, get career experience and earn an income, they’re entering a changed and shifting employment landscape.
To assist with the transition, Careerspace at Trent continues to offer career support and guidance for all students.
“Many of our services are still available, and accessible online, meaning Trent students can get help from career advisors in order to better navigate these especially unusual and difficult circumstances,” said Kelly Zatorski, manager of Careerspace.
Students can access all of the online career resources made available by Careerspace, and can book virtual appointments with career counsellors to get one-on-one support on taking the next step in their careers.
The Careerspace team continues to update the job board, helping connect students with available opportunities, and continue to meet with students via phone calls or video chats to outline career interests, identify skills, support with professional school applications, review cover letters and resumes, and much more.
Academic-related programs coordinated by Careerspace, such as community-based research, placements, and other work integrated learning opportunities, have also been adapted to be done remotely, so that students can still tap into the advantages of experiential learning.
“We want to ensure Trent students—whether they are returning in September or graduating this year—know that the top priority of Careerspace is to support their personal and career development, under both normal and not-so-normal situations, like a pandemic,” said Ms. Zatorski.
Looking ahead, Careerspace staff and counsellors are working on expanding the online resources available to students, to include content such as webinars, workshops and videos. Additionally, Careerspace will be collaborating with faculty across the University to integrate career planning information with online course delivery.
Students can book Careerspace appointments through the Student Experience Portal, and will be sent a link to connect for the date and time that they booked.
