Trent University, Fleming College Sign New Degree Pathways in Environmental Studies
Trent University and Fleming College have signed two new articulation agreements that allow students in two Fleming programs the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from Trent.
Eligible graduates of Fleming’s Urban Forestry Technician and Forestry Technician diploma programs will have the opportunity to be granted 7.0 credits toward Trent’s Environmental and Resource Science B.Sc. degree – one of many degrees offered by the Trent School of the Environment.
“We are thrilled that Trent will be welcoming graduates from Fleming’s Urban Forestry Technician and Forestry Technician diploma programs and we know the learning they gain at Trent – Canada’s top postsecondary environmental institution - will greatly enhance their future careers as environmental leaders,” said Dr. Shaun Watmough, director of the Trent School of the Environment.
The two programs are part of the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences (SENRS), located at Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ont. Students in most SENRS diploma programs share a common first semester, which creates a solid academic foundation and allows students to acquire fundamental, transferable skills. These programs also provide students with extensive experiential learning through applied outdoor learning opportunities and co-operative education.
The agreements build on Trent’s longstanding partnership with Fleming College to provide academic programming and research partnerships in areas related to environmental and natural resource studies.
“We are very pleased to build on Fleming’s longstanding partnership with Trent University to continue to provide more of our students the opportunity to combine applied, hands-on learning with the theoretical learning available at Trent,” said Brett Goodwin, Dean, Principal, School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences at Fleming College.
There are now five programs in collaboration with Fleming College that lead towards a B.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Science at Trent. Other agreements include Environmental Technology, Ecosystem Management Technology, and Fish and Wildlife Technology.
The two institutions share a comprehensive offering of pathways in other areas of study, ranging from business to education to computers to law and justice.
