Trent University Saddened to Learn of the Passing of Elizabeth ‘Betty’ O’Toole

April 16, 2019

Ms. O’Toole worked at the University in different roles over 18 years

The Trent University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” O’Toole who worked with the University for 18 years, starting as a clerk/typist and retiring as donations management coordinator for External Relations and Advancement.

Ms. O’Toole started her career at the University in Accounts Payable and, over the years, assumed many different roles including assistant secretary at Traill College, secretary at Peter Robinson, administrative secretary for Student Affairs, and finally donations management coordinator with Advancement. She retired in 2015.

Ms. O’Toole loved travelling, gardening and golfing while also being involved with her community at Grace United Church.

Below is an excerpt from her obituary notice:

Passed away peacefully, on her own terms and surrounded by love on April 12, 2019 at age 69 after a battle with cancer. Betty will also be missed by her many friends, including those from her years spent proudly working at Trent University, her band of faithful travel companions with whom she saw the world, her fellow gardeners at the Peterborough Horticultural Society, her community at Grace United Church and her buddies from the golf course. We can't help but think that the flowers in her garden and the green spaces around her beloved Peterborough will also miss her familiar loving presence. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Hospice Peterborough, and spend some extra time with those you love in Betty's honour.

The University extends heartfelt sympathies to Ms. O’Toole’s family and friends, and to all who knew her at Trent University.

A Celebration of Life for Ms. O’Toole will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Trent Student Centre.
