Engaging the Global Trent Community
Staff, faculty and senior admin join alum at events in Hong Kong, Malaysia, New York, Victoria, Vancouver, and national capital region
Despite being miles away from the Trent campuses in Peterborough and the Durham GTA, Trent alumni in far-flung regions are being reminded that they are still very much a part of the University community.
An event earlier this month in Hong Kong attracted Trent University provost and vice-president academic Dr. Jacquie Muldoon and associate vice-president Glennice Burns. Another October alumni event in Malaysia attracted staff from Trent’s recruitment office.
This comes after a recent Times Square rooftop patio event at the home of alumnus Michael Jakob, where Alumni Affairs director Lee Hays helped welcome New York alum. Meanwhile, Trent president and vice-chancellor Dr. Leo Groarke will be attending November events in Victoria (November 5) and Vancouver (November 7).
Later in November, alumni in the National Capital Region will be gathering at the Museum of History for a lecture by Trent alumnus and award-winning Professor of History, Dr. Christopher Dummitt and the presentation of Trent University Alumni Awards to Professor Harvey McCue '66 and Denis Desjardins '76.
“Trent is an international community,” notes President Groarke. “Our focal points are Peterborough and Durham, but key members of our community are spread across the globe. They are our alumni in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. They want to hear from us and, more than that, they want to contribute to Trent today. Connecting with them is a way of keeping our community strong, building global partnerships, and providing opportunities for our students and our faculty.”
