Trent World Festival Celebrates Cultural Connections on Campus
Students from around the world gather to show off their cultural pride
With the sun shining over the Bata Library podium on September 4, student groups from across campus gathered for the first-ever World Festival – a new orientation event this year celebrating diversity at Trent through cultural traditions, food and music. Student groups in attendance included the:
- Organization for Hispanic and Latino Awareness (HOLA)
- Trent African and Caribbean Student Union (TACSU)
- Trent Southeast Asian Organization (TSEAO)
- Trent University Chinese Student Association (TUCSA)
- South Asians Association at Trent (SAAT)
- Trent International Student Association (TISA)
“World Festival offers students the chance to share their culture with others,” explained Paul Longhurst, international student advisor for Trent International. “Both international students and domestic students shared comfort food such as bubble tea, samosas and fried plantain, and forged new friendships in a vibrant, multicultural festival atmosphere.”
This year, Trent International has welcomed more than 300 new international students from over 80 countries. The Trent International office supports new and returning international students with academic advising, programming to support their transition to life in Canada, wellness counselling, and many social events throughout orientation week and the academic year.
Students are invited to connect with Trent International to meet new friends or pursue their passion by joining one of our many student-led associations, clubs and groups.
