After his first-place win, Trevor Jones will move on to try for selections for the senior team and the Senior World Championships on September 9 - 16.

After years of committed training and a week of flawless athletic performance, fourth-year Trent University student and Trent Excalibur rower, Trevor Jones, can now add two-time World Rowing Under-23 Champion to his long list of accolades.

Between July 25 to July 29, Mr. Jones joined fellow Rowing Canada Avrion NextGen rowers from across the country to represent Canada on the national stage in Poznan, Poland at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships. Establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with, Mr. Jones won all of his qualifying races and retained his world champion title on July 29 in the Men’s Single Sculls finals, topping the podium with a time of 06:48.70.

“Trevor went into the championships to defend his title which is not an easy thing to accomplish,” explained Rowing Canada’s NextGen Hub lead coach and former Olympian, Carol Love. “I am incredibly proud to have watched his progress from his first strokes taken on the Otonabee to becoming a back to back U-23 world champion and a rising star on the international scene.”

Also representing Trent University and Canada was first-year student, Grace VandenBroek. Attending a world championship at the age of eighteen is an achievement in its own right, however Ms. VandenBroek continued to shine by placing a solid fifth place overall in the women’s quadruple sculls A Finals.

Now back on Canadian soil, Mr. Jones will travel to the National Training Centre in Victoria, British Columbia to try for selections for the senior team and the Senior World Championships which will be held on September 9 to September 16 in Bulgaria.
