Annual fundraiser helps enhance Trent University's varsity athlete scholarship program

11th Annual President's Excalibur Golf Tournament Raises $30,000 in Support of Trent Varsity Athletes

Golfers, sponsors, varsity athletes and coaches participated in Trent University’s 11th annual President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament at Peterborough Golf & Country Club on Thursday, June 25, 2015, helping to raise $30,000 in support of Trent’s varsity athletes.

“The tremendous support of sponsors and golfers who participated in this year’s President’s Excalibur Golf Tournament helps us to provide an outstanding academic and athletic experience for our student athletes at Trent University.” said Steven Pillar, vice president, Finance and Administration, Trent University. “I would like to thank all of our sponsors and guests who supported this year’s event, enabling Trent to recruit and retain the best and brightest student athletes.”

All proceeds from this annual tournament go towards supporting the varsity Green & White Athletic Scholarships for exceptional first-year student athletes at Trent University.

A number of varsity athletes and coaches were on hand throughout the day and had the opportunity to visit with golfers and share their experiences being part of the varsity program at Trent. Trent University president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Leo Groarke, also took part in the day by greeting golfers throughout the day and thanking them for their generous support of varsity student-athletes at Trent.

“Dr. Groake’s tremendous support of varsity athletics at Trent made a positive impact on the success of this year’s tournament and, most importantly, the overall growth of athletics programs at Trent,” said Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of Athletics and Recreation at Trent.

The tournament was a shotgun scramble format with contests throughout the day, including a Closest-to-the-Pin Contest generously sponsored by PepsiCo, and Longest Drive competition sponsored by BMO Bank of Montreal. The tournament was attended by members of the Trent Board of Governors, University senior administrators, and a number of business leaders from the community.

As part of the prestigious tournament, golfers were treated to a barbecue lunch, along with a number of refreshments on the course, generously provided by sponsors PepsiCo, KawarthaDairy, and Moosehead. Golfers also enjoyed a reception following the tournament, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Canada, and dinner, sponsored by London Property Corporation. Beverages at dinner were provided with thanks to the sponsorship of LLF Lawyers.

The 2015 Winning Foursome title went to the team from tournament sponsors Moosehead and National Fitness, and included: Mike Belsey, Brandon Perry, Adam Toomey, and Jeff Spooner. Other winners included closest-to-the-pin, Nancy Marcotte and Bob Doornenbal, and longest drive winners Ingrid Pereira and John Casserly.

Congratulations and thanks go out to everyone who participated, with special appreciation to the many generous sponsors who helped make this year’s event such a success.
