Trent University Saddened to Learn of the Passing of Eugene Joseph McKeiver

January 6, 2017

Mr. McKeiver worked at Trent University from 1966-1999

The Trent University community was saddened to learn of the passing of Eugene Joseph McKeiver on January 2, 2017. He started working at Trent in 1966 and was employed for 33 years as a groundskeeper in the Physical Resources department. Mr. McKeiver took pride in his work and was an inspiration to students, staff and faculty. For his contributions, upon retirement he was awarded the Eminent Service Award in 2000.

Below is an excerpt from his obituary notice:

McKeiver, Eugene “Gene” Joseph - Peacefully, with family members by his side, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on Monday, January 2, 2017, in his 78th year. A life-long resident of Warsaw, Gene was the son of the late Jimmy McKeiver and Margaret (Leahy-d), loving brother of George (Mary), Mary Connolly (William-d), Camilla Hickson (Jim), Carl (Mary, and Mary Theresa Crowley-d), John (d), Paul (d) and brother-in-law of Elizabeth Eaton and Brian Eaton. Gene shared 38 wonderful years with his beloved wife and soul-mate, Sharon (Eaton) who shared his love of farming. After retiring from a 30+ year career as exceptional grounds-keeper at Trent University, Gene turned his attention, full-time, to the successful running of their farm in Warsaw. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation with, and condolences to the family will be welcomed at the church prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.. Donations on Gene’s behalf would be most welcome by the Kawartha Food Share program and/or the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Read the full obituary here.

The University extends heartfelt sympathies to Mr. McKeiver’s family and friends, and to all who knew him at Trent University.
