Trent University’s impact on the local Peterborough community was more apparent than ever at yesterday’s 2016 Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, where students, staff, alumni, and the University took home awards and accolades aplenty.
Trent was the winner of the Not-For-Profit category, in recognition for excellence and growth in entrepreneurial spirit, programs and services, volunteer management, fundraising initiatives, marketing and promotion, and community involvement. Board of Governors vice-chair Stephen Kylie was also recognized as the Business Citizen of the Year for his many business and volunteer contributions to Peterborough, including his leadership role at Trent, the Peterborough Poverty Reduction Network and The Mount Community Centre project.
Adding to the University’s strong showing, Trent University Business Administration student, David Shadlock, was one of the award winners of the Student Business Leadership Bursary Award.
“The Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce is a vital component of our community and Trent appreciates their recognition last night. It showcases the positive momentum that’s building both for Trent and the Peterborough community,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “The successes we celebrated last night highlight our key connections to the business community and the broader community we want to work with and support.”
