An effective social media campaign aimed at promoting the benefits of studying the humanities at Trent has earned the University’s Marketing and Communications team a first-ever Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Award of Excellence.

The award-winning inaugural #TrentHumanities campaign compiled stories, student, alumni and research profiles, video testimonials, sector facts, news releases and other highlights and gave them new life through a week-long social media campaign – reaching tens of thoausands of people and sharing the importance of studying the humanities, and specifically the benefits of studying the humanities at Trent.

The SSHRC Award of Excellence, new for 2016, recognizes the communications efforts of post-secondary institutions in promoting the benefits and impacts of social sciences and humanities research. Trent University was the inaugural winner in the medium-size institutions category and was presented with the award at the World Public Relations Forum Awards Gala in Toronto on May 31, 2016.

"Research in the social sciences and the humanities helps Canadians better understand who we are, where we have been, and where we are going,” said Ted Hewitt, president of SSHRC. “I applaud this year's winners of the inaugural SSHRC Award of Excellence for communicating so successfully the value and importance of this rich and dynamic array of disciplines to the broader general public,"
