Curling, Fencing and Volleyball Teams Shine in Playoffs

February 16 and 17 marked an impressive weekend for Trent University’s varsity curling, fencing and volleyball teams.

At the OUA Curling Provincial Championship in Windsor, Ontario the Trent varsity women’s team finished third overall in a very strong field. In Saturday's round robin Trent took down the previously undefeated Western Mustangs in the first game by a score of nine to three. The Excalibur then defeated second-ranked Laurier six to four in the second match. Trent lost their third match to Queen's women in Saturday's final round robin game eight to five. In addition to this impressive finish, Trent varsity player Sarah Ridgley was selected to the OUA's second All Star Team for this year's competitions.

In Fencing, the women’s varsity team wrapped up their season with a bronze medal finish in the women’s team sabre at the OUA Championships. Julie Tyne also took home an individual bronze – making her the highest ranked Trent fencer.

Back at Trent, the men’s volleyball team also made history and thrilled their hometown crowd, defeating the Nipissing Lakers and keeping their championship hopes alive. For the first time ever, the varsity men’s volleyball team will be making an appearance at the OCAA Provincial Championships, being held February 21 to 23.

On the women’s side, the Trent Excalibur lost to defending champions, the Nipissing Lakers, wrapping up their varsity season.
