As construction and renovations of the new Trent University Oshawa Thornton Road Campus at 55 Thornton Road, South near completion, the University is pleased to announce that the project is on budget and on schedule to open its doors to students for a new academic year in September 2010.

“We are into the final three weeks of what has been a very fast-tracked construction schedule,” said John Wordley, director of the Physical Resources Department at Trent University. “The site is extremely busy and will remain so until the Labour Day weekend. Our construction manager, J.J. McGuire, has done and continues to do a remarkable job in pulling together all the myriad sub-trades required to complete this demanding project on time. They are doing a first class job.”

The modern, new campus on Thornton Road is over 50,000 square feet, including 15,000 square feet of new construction. A new lecture theatre, lecture hall, student commons area and full-service library are among many of the upgrades and additions to the interior of the completely wi-fi facility. Students, staff and faculty will also benefit from free parking, the option to purchase an athletic membership at the newly renovated Oshawa Civic Centre next door and access to municipal transit services to downtown Oshawa as well as the Durham College/UOIT campus.

“We are undoubtedly creating the first phase of great campus which is not simply a 'facelift' renovation but what will truly present itself as a 'new' Trent facility to returning and new students,” added Mr. Wordley.

Building on a 35-year history of granting degrees in the Durham Region, Trent University’s new Thornton Road campus in Oshawa will be a hub for learning and innovation. At the dedicated new campus, a tradition of strong academic programming in a variety of disciplines and dedicated student support will be complemented by contemporary and modern facilities. Construction on the new campus is currently underway and the new building will open for students in September 2010. A grand opening, featuring public tours and lecture is scheduled for October 18, 2010. For more information about the new campus, visit www.trentu.ca/oshawa.
