The Trent Advantage
Build hands-on expertise in human movement through active learning in Trent’s Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics Labs, working with leading faculty and diverse populations while preparing for a career as a Registered Kinesiologist.
This hands-on, career-track degree equips you with the knowledge and skills to become a highly skilled and career-ready practitioner of kinesiology (the study of human movement). Combine scientific knowledge with practical experience, learning how to assess movement, design individualized exercise programs, and apply kinesiology principles with diverse populations, including high-performance athletes, seniors and community groups.
- Through hands-on labs, a fourth-year practicum or research experience, and opportunities to work in leading facilities like Trent Health in Motion, you'll develop the skills and experience needed to pursue careers in kinesiology, rehabilitation, health promotion, and related health professions.
- When you graduate, you will have the required expertise to pursue certification as a registered kinesiologist (R.Kin.).
Career experience while you learn
Every Kinesiology student has a guaranteed route to paid, credited experience before they graduate.
Paid Co-op Available
- Choose the five-year co-op stream and graduate with paid work experience completing three 12–16-week work terms in the summer of year three and fall and winter of year four.
- Expand your experience with an option to add an extra work term at the end of your degree for a total of 16 months of work experience.
Research Opportunities
- Develop skills in exercise testing, movement assessments, injury management techniques and functional anatomy through a variety of hands-on labs
- Complete a Kinesiology thesis under the mentorship of a Trent professor, developing and carrying out an independent research project.
- Gain research experience through Trent’s Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics Labs, where students conduct exercise testing and movement assessments with diverse populations, including elite athletes, Indigenous communities and older adults.
Field Schools and Hands-On Courses
- Gain an advanced clinical and practical health perspective through courses integrated with Trent’s Nursing program and hands-on anatomy labs exploring how the musculoskeletal and nervous systems produce movement.
- Put exercise science into practice by conducting fitness testing and laboratory and field-based exercise assessments, then designing individualized and group endurance and resistance-training programs.
- Build hands-on skills in injury assessment and prevention, including emergency treatment and taping techniques for sports injuries, plus ergonomic assessments and workplace case studies focused on preventing musculoskeletal injuries.
Study Abroad
- Take your Trent education global. Spend a semester or year studying at one of Trent’s 50+ international partner universities, participate in a summer field course, or gain international experience through a placement or internship.
- With opportunities in more than 35 countries, you can broaden your academic perspective, experience new cultures, and build skills that prepare you for a global career.
