In 2008, Trent University became Canada's 8th Fair-Trade Campus. Building on a prior commitment to purchase Fair Trade apparel through Athletics and the Campus Store, coffee, tea and chocolate were added.

How does Trent University Support Fair Trade?
- All coffee sold on campus is Fair Trade certified, except for certain franchises
- Fair Trade teas, sugar and chocolate are available for sale at Food Service locations, excluding franchises
- All approved caterers are required to provide Fair Trade coffee and tea exclusively
- A multi-stakeholder Sustainability and Fair Trade Working Group works to deepen Trent University's committment to Fair Trade's programming, services, and food offerings on campus
Why do we need Fair Trade?
It is the mission of Fair Trade Canada to ensure decent working conditions, as well as fair terms of trade. In other words, fair trade contributes to the empowerment of rural populations around the world.
